There isn’t a one-size-fits-all cleaning routine. The best weekly cleaning schedule is the one you’ll actually stick to!
Customize your cleaning routine to your availability and schedule.
You may want to clean one room per day, or do all of one type of task per day (ie. all the dusting or mopping).
Or maybe you even want to do all your weekly chores on one day, since the other days are jam-packed.
This really depends on how bad you let it get!
If you haven’t been keeping up with dishes, clutter, spills, and crumbs, it will take longer.
For the average household, your weekly cleaning schedule will take about 3 hours.
You could do this in 30 minutes a day, or 3 hours all on a single day.
(I prefer to spread out my cleaning tasks, so I never have to spend an entire afternoon cleaning the whole house.)
Okay, let’s dive into creating your new weekly cleaning schedule!
To keep your new cleaning routine really simple, consider assigning one room (or type of task) to each day of the week.
These daily cleaning tasks can even be assigned to different family members, because household chores are for everyone!
By breaking up the weekly tasks into daily tasks, it’ll feel like it takes you less time each week, because it’s broken down into a little bit at a time.
Here’s an example of a daily cleaning schedule:
💡 Bonus task: Use a master grocery list to keep track of what you’ll need to buy at the grocery store while cleaning out the refrigerator.
👉 Pro-tip: Keep all your cleaning products together in a caddy like this , so you don’t have to waste time gathering supplies.
Note: Depending on how many people live in your house (and your cleanliness preferences) you may want to do some of the tasks 2-3 times a week.
💡 Bonus task: Restock toiletries, and make a list of those that are running low.
👉 Pro tip: I find doing one load of laundry a day preferable to doing it all in one day, but do what works best for your schedule.

Sundays are a good day to catch up on any weekly cleaning tasks that you haven’t completed. That way you can head into the following week with the entire house clean.
A few deep cleaning tasks are best done as monthly chores.
They’re easy to forget areas of the home, so sprinkle these throughout the month to ensure they get done on a regular basis.
Monthly cleaning checklist:
I know this weekly cleaning list might look overwhelming when listed all together.
But I promise that each room doesn’t take as long as you’d think to clean.
The good news is that each individual task doesn’t take much time – probably only 1-5 minutes each.
Dividing them up and assigning them to each day of the week is a better way to keep your home much cleaner without much effort.
Feel free to break them up throughout the day if you struggle to find a time slot big enough. There are lots of different ways to DIY your regular cleaning schedule so you spend the least amount of time each day.
If you work full time, you could do a couple smaller tasks before work, and a couple when you get home.
The beauty of having a weekly cleaning routine is:
A) Your house or apartment feels clean almost all the time!
B) After doing it for a little while, you won’t even think about it anymore. It’ll just be second nature to clean your bedroom every Sunday (for example).
I hope you’ll consider trying this simple house cleaning schedule.
Feel free to adapt and adjust it to your lifestyle. Use the ideas in this post and the blank printable checklist to put together your own cleaning schedule that will work best for you.
